June - Sea Temp 15

 Started in Wexford and ended up on my favourite northside bit of seaside.   

Finally, after weeks (okay, days) of not being able to hear I finally went to the Dr.   I solemnly promise to wear ear plugs whilst swimming now.   Also got to squeeze a swim with Ger in .... it's been so long since we've seen each other it was great to hang out.  Oh, and for once I was better than her at something.   Which will only last another week or so before she's back training for her triathlon. 

Oh, and we had a barbecue to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of O&A.  Seriously, the craic was mighty.  C had non alcoholic beers (my new favourite thing for the beach) and I got to see a chap wearing a mankini.   I think I may have peed a little from laughing.   

I've also started trying to swim a kilometre around the buoys.   It's mad, have gone from just being able to get to first buoy to being utterly determined to do 1,000m.  I have J's heart broken with the nerves. 

oh, and there were lots of handstands.  Photos, as usual, in no particular order.  Also, as usual, I will never get used to the changes in the light and colour of the sea.  Half a year on and it still makes me stop and savour.

I started swimming in the sea in October 2020.  I've wanted to do it for the longest time and one Sunday, whilst out walking the dogs I met this wonderful woman J.  She told me that the first swim was the hardest and introduced me to a fabulous bunch of women who swim daily. The start of a love affair.  I've made some wonderful friends, had a lot of laughs and seen a lot of sunrises. My first sea swim was with Carol though.  It was after the funeral (to which no one could attend due to Covid restrictions) of my friends mam.  I spent such a lot of time in that house growing up and it was heartbreaking to be back in Sandymount to say goodbye.   I met Carol after the funeral and, even though it stole my breath away, it was perfect.  That gorgeous balance between pleasure and pain.  Nothing like a good cry whilst swimming to help clear out the head.  RIP Sheila, you were a big part of my childhood and I hope you at peace and know how much yo...

July - Sea Temp 15.9

 I've started swimming swimming, if you know what I mean.   So, last month I swam 1km, then I made it to 1.5km at the start of this month .... now I've hit a mile!!!  1700m to be precise.  I'm loving it.   But I've noticed that I take less photos when I am doing the buoys than when I'm just having a bob about.   The weather was glorious and, as I was working in an office during the hottest week of the year, I went sunrise dipping with Clodagh most mornings. Who knew that I could willingly (happily) get up at 5am.   Himself and myself went to Cork for a weekend and ended up in the gorgeous, clear blue waters of Barley Cove South Beach.  Wow. August - Temperature 16.1

   Joanne reminded us that the weather in Ireland is wet every year!?  I could have sworn it was always sunny.   The air is warm, the sea has been pretty wild and F & O tied the knot..... with dryrobe bridesmaids no less.   There were less jellyfish and I managed to pull my shoulder whilst swimming in waves.   The pain!?  Oh, and I signed up to do a 750 swim in September.   Even though I know I can do it the thought of it is still making me feel ill.  Mind you, looking back at photos there were some lovely mornings.  In the the one where I'm lying there, admiring my newly painted toes, a man had just shouted out 'Are you alright?' (I was the only one in the sea at 5.30 in the morning).  I replied 'I'm grand, husband snores ... couldn't sleep'  He laughed and continued on his walk.  The shittiest part of August was Cooper passed away.   I was gutted for his lovely owner Sinead and kinda dev...
